Finally Australian Football meets ACADEMIA

They might not seem a combination you would think of combining, but Deakin University PhD candidate and associate lecturer Chris Young taking on the task of bringing the two together.

Chris Young and supervisor Dr Dan Dwyer’s study called “Understanding effective tactics in Australian football using network analysis“, is featured on this week’s episode of Trends.

Their research highlights, among other many other things, the importance of maximising the collective should never be overlooked in sporting teams. The reliance on individual players is actually quite unhealthy.

However, he cautions against teams over-possessing the ball in the pursuit of spreading the work load.

A podcast for the hardcore and average football fan; Trends. For the person who wants to understand more about what they are watching each weekend. Trends also focuses on what’s going on behind the scenes in sports.
